Water is a crucial resource in everyone's life. Making sure that we use a reasonable amount is great not only for ourselves but for our environment. Here are some great ways to reduce water usage here in Reno.
Turn off the water when brushing your teeth
A very easy thing to do is rather having the water full blast, shut it off while you brush your teeth.
Do larger loads
Running your washer and dryer when they are full can save up to 1000 gallons a month. If its not urgent its always good to wait till you have enough for a full load to wash.
When washing dishes by hand do not let the water run. Try to let the dishes soak first and then wash. It makes it easier to clean them.
Taking shorter showers can save plenty of water especially if you have a large family. Five minute showers are easy to do and can be a fun for children.
Water lawn at night
Watering your lawn when the sun is setting, night time, or early morning can help save water. If you are watering during the day most of the water will not make it all the way down. You would have to use more than you would at a cooler time.

Water plays a big role in all of our lives. We use it everyday in all sorts of ways. Here are some great tips to make sure your water in your house is not causing any problems.
Checking water pressure
Making sure you check your water pressure is very important. Sometimes you do not always know you have a leak. Checking your water pressure regularly lets you know if there is a sudden spike that you might have been unaware of.
Watching out for water leaks
Leaks are a common problem that most of us have experienced probably in the last year. That dripping faucet in your bathroom may seem innocent but not dealing with it can cause more problems in the long run.
Do not use your toilet as a waste basket. Throwing anything other than toilet paper down it can cause very serious problems. Items such as diapers, cotton balls, make-up tissues, etc are not to be thrown in the toilet. This can cause your toilet to become clogged and backup which I am sure you do not want.
We all have some type of drain in our house. Whether it is in the kitchen or bathroom we use them everyday. So it is very important that we are maintaining them the best we can. These are some tips to help you take care of your drains.
Some tips for keeping your drains from getting clogged are making sure you have a kitchen sink or shower stopper. This is very important because you want to keep food, junk, or hair from going down the drain. You can find them at your local hardware stores here in Reno.
Most people may think that they can dump anything down the drain because the have a disposers. They may seem like they can tackle anything they are faced with but this is wrong. Most
biodegradable food waste can be put down the disposer. However items such as plastic, glass, metal, or anything that is not food will mess up your drain.
They can solve many different problems. Clogged drains and toilets, patio and storm drains, underground pipes, water heaters, faucets, and more. Van Allen Plumbing is the best around when it comes to plumbing services in Reno and Sparks!

So, how do you know when your home or business needs a partial or complete repiping? Maybe your water pressure is weak, your appliances are re-filling slower than usual or your water is slightly brown. If you have galvanized pipes, your pipes could be rusting and collecting debris that will result in unfit drinking water. Brown tinged water, foul smells and low pressure are all signs that your galvanized pipes are both on their way out and potentially dangerous to your family's health. It's also possible that the pipes have developed leaks that could mold, rot or potentially cause some major damage to your home.
If this is the case, you may need to repipe your home or business. Contact us, Van Allen Plumbing, today if you have a suspicion that this is happening in your building. A partial or house repiping is an undertaking, but one that is well worth the process. Heavily corroded pipes are beyond unpleasant, they are potentially toxic and should be considered an important fix for the home or business owner. We can update your corroded and leaking pipes for your own safety and to avoid potentially larger bills that involve a rotting and ruined home!
